Ingvar Steinberg is a composing and publishing identity. It sits over a songbook written since 1992 and an ensemble of voices, and it is held by a single author and rights-holder, Ihor Nesterenko, whose lyrics and compositions predate the tools now used to realise them.
The name
Why Steinberg, and not a byline.
Ingvar Steinberg is the composer's professional name — the mark the songs are published and presented under. It works the way a maison or a publishing imprint does: the author owns and writes the work; the name carries it into the world.
That separation is deliberate. It keeps the focus on the songs and the ensemble rather than on personality, and it lets a body of work spanning several languages and three decades sit under one steady identity.
The archive
Three decades of writing.
The foundation is an archive begun in the early 1990s: verses from 1992, compositions from 1996, and hundreds of studies pairing each verse with an arrangement and a voice. It is a working library, not a museum — the modern releases are drawn and completed from it.
The greater part of the earliest material is held privately. What comes forward is the work suited to the ensemble's current voices and to the languages the practice publishes in today.
Languages & range
Written to be sung in four registers.
Steinberg writes in English, German and Ukrainian — so localisation and multilingual versioning are part of the craft, not a bolt-on. The musical range is broad by design and organised as an ensemble: soul-pop and ballads, rock, and the heavy end through to thrash, carried by grand piano, violin, guitar and rhythm.
Rather than one voice claiming every style, the work is voiced by a small stable of acts — Lunno, Romantik, Melissa and Vespertide — each with its own register, all composed by the same hand.
